Golf Course Update
Weekend Update - 14/15 February
Dear Members,

Firstly, may I thank those Members who have contacted me to thank the St. Mellion team for their efficient communication over the last few weeks. I would also like to express my thanks for the support from the membership who realise how difficult this period has been. As members have commented 'St. Mellion are not to blame for the weather, but it would be easy to take your frustration out on us as 'fee-paying' Members but, thankfully, this has not happened.

The reason for getting in touch is to provide an update for the days ahead.

Following on from previous communications in the last few weeks, we have continued to see a significant amount of rainfall, although most of it at night. Even last evening, which appeared fairly dry, we had 9mm of rain that 'tops up' what is already saturated ground.

Despite this, the positive news is that the Kernow Course has been open all week with a minimum of 13 main greens in operation. The feedback from the members that played was very positive, which reinforces the difficult decisions we have made in the last few weeks when the Kernow Course was deemed too wet or unsafe to open.

With the weather forecast still unsettled, we will continue to review the Kernow Course on a daily basis, but it is highly likely that it will remain OPEN for the weekend and into next week.

The Nicklaus Course has also been under constant review but, unlike the Kernow Course it is not yet ready for golf to be played on it and I can confirm today that the next review of the Nicklaus Course will not be until next week. From the images I sent out to the Membership a couple of weeks ago, the condition has improved but not sufficient to open. It is important to ensure that when we get into the 'golf season' with both courses in the best condition possible, to do this we must allow 'the experts', in our case, Mike Bush and his team, the opportunity to do what is necessary.

This weekend there is a Nicklaus Course 4BBB competition, which, following a conversation with Mike Bush (Course Manager), Tony Burgess (Men's Secretary) and me, this Saturday's competition has been cancelled.

All competitors will have their entry fee refunded, and your competition tee times have been cancelled.

For those playing golf this weekend, please check your CLUBV1 Course Update as this will provide the latest information about the Kernow Course condition & restrictions.

Kind regards,
