Captain's Charity Texas Scramble Report

Following on from yesterday’s Captains Charity Challenge I want to say a massive thank you to all of you who braved the weather and took part. I was blown away by the support, particularly when you could all have decided an extra hour or two in bed would have been preferable….and understandable.

Despite the awful weather there were some exceptional scores and I witnessed the best golf my vice captain, Kevin, had ever played in my company. Saving his best to the last event of my Captaincy is an understatement. Well done Kevin and well done Matthew and Mike for helping us secure and impressive top score on count back with a Nett 56. The fact that nobody beat our score meant that I could auction the 4 ball voucher for Worthing adding an additional £160 to the charity pot. Thank you to Mike Page who won the bid. Whilst the pennies haven’t yet been counted I hope to have raised over £750 on the day with your support.

As the Captain’s team were only there to set a target score I was delighted to present the main prizes to the team of Mike Page, Richard Hay, John Green and Shaun Taylor who secured their position with a score of Nett 56.

Congratulation also to our nearest the pin winners

2nd hole - John Green
5th hole - Gordon Catt
10th hole - Kevin Holton
15th hole - George Austin (prize in the office)

With approximately 120 players taking part it was lovely to see the club house bulging at the seams, just what we needed after recent course closures.

My thanks to James, Lee and Karen for the organisation behind the event and on the day. All proceeds from the entry fees with go to the Golf Foundation. Also, thanks to Rob and his team for giving us 18 very playable holes, despite the poor conditions.
And also to Lucy and her team for keeping us all fed and watered.

Before I finish I would like to offer my thoughts and best wishes to our friends and members who are currently in the Middle East. Hopefully the conflict will be short and we look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Thanks again everyone…..now it’s time to enjoy the sunshine!

Men's Dinner & Auction Night - Friday 20th March

A reminder that the table plan is up on the notice board outside the office for the Men's Dinner & Summer Fourball Auction night on Friday 20th March. Below is a copy of the email that was sent out previously about this event:

Members attending the dinner on the Friday evening will once again have the opportunity to take part in the Fourball Better Ball competition on the Saturday morning, which will be played with a 9 am shotgun start. As always, entry into the competition is restricted to those who attend the dinner the evening before.

The Golf Committee has agreed to introduce a new annual trophy for this event, beginning this year. Members will be aware of the very sad passing last year of former Club President, Captain, and long-time member, Ian Pettie. Ian was the auctioneer at the Men’s Dinner for many years and played a central role in the success and enjoyment of the evening.

It has therefore been agreed that the competition held the day after the dinner will be known as 'The Ian Pettie Gavel'. Ian’s family have very kindly donated a trophy for the event and will be present on the Saturday to present it following the golf.

If you would like to attend the dinner, please add your name to the table plan. Please also mark your menu choices and if you wish to play in the golf competition the next day. Full information about the event is on the poster attached with today's latest news email.

In addition, we are pleased to confirm that a one-off memorial day in Ian’s memory will take place later in the year, which will be open to all members of the Club. Further details will be shared in due course.
