What's been happening
Dear member

With The Masters just less than two weeks away, it feels like the golfing season is upon us. The course is in great shape, our new fairway brush has worked it's magic on the worm casts whilst ensuring the grass stands up before being cut, our new tee hand mowers have also been in action this week and I'm pleased to report that we will be back on the grass tees as of Saturday 28th March. The newly refurbished 13th tee will remain on the mat until further notice.

Duncan and his team have been working hard to ensure we are ready for the season, irrigation has been added to the front of holes 5 & 12 along with laying some new turf to cover what was an old access road in front of the 12th green.
The team also managed to locate what was a fairly sizeable leak in the irrigation pipes. This might sound straight forward, it was anything but. We inherited a system with no map or plan therefore we have no idea where all the pipes run...Over the years we have mapped what we have discovered but there's miles of pipe out there somewhere! To make matters worse the majority of pipes run through the trees, the roots of which are causing the leaks!
Having isolated several areas of the course using thier knowledge of the pipes we know about and intuition, the leak was found and repaired.
Based on the age of the system and in order to mitigate future issues we will begin laying our own (mapped) pipework, away from the trees!!

DRIVING RANGE
I'm pleased to report that phase one of the driving range upgrade will commence next week, this will mean a complete clearance and flattening at the back end of the driving range, earth that is moved will be mounded at the back end of the range, a new 12 meter high fence will be erected from the corner of the swing room all the way down the right side of the range, across the back where it will be positioned on top of the mounding for extra fence height and then half way down the left side. The netting will also protect the new green keepers compound.
We will still ask everyone to hit within the fence, however the added yardage and fence height should mean most members can hit fairway woods at the very least, if you're like me and can only hit it 200 yards downwind and downhill you'll be able to use a driver!

SMOKERS
We have a phantom smoker potentially two, that insist on stubbing out thier cigarettes / roll ups on the wall outside the main entrance and then leaving the stub/butt sticking up in one of the brickwork joints. Please stop doing this! It's gross. The upstairs decking is open and there are ashtrays on the tables, use those please.

CLUB DIRECTORS
Val Freed has decided to step down as a director of the company. On behalf of the club I would like to thank Val for her dedication to the management board, Val has contributed massively over the years, not only to the success of the club but in ensuring the ladies section had a voice at management level. Val continues as our ladies secretary, thank you Val. The chairman has co-opted Joe Procter to fulfil Vals tenure on the management committee, Joe comes in as director of sustainability, a new role that we feel will become increasingly significant in years to come. Joe is one of our younger members and will bring a fresh perspective to the table. Welcome Joe....

Have a great weekend, beware the added 1000 yards from the grass tees!!!!!!

Cheers

Rob
