Great to see so many of you playing this week despite the chilly weather!
And even better to begin to mow our grass tees again. Slowly but surely we are getting ready to get you back on the full course, taking care as we do, not to damage early morning frosty surfaces.
We are pleased with the overall growth rates on our tees since they were spiked, over
seeded and fertilised during the last 5 months. We look forward to having them ready for regular use by the third week of April.
We are opening some of the grass tees on the Blue and Yellow Courses for our King’s Cup Competition on Good Friday. This in honour of this special mixed event which opens our new season.
This week we have also patched up more areas damaged as a result of last year’s drought.
Please note that all areas marked with white paint and the letters GUR must not be played from. Should your ball go into one of these areas, you must collect it as carefully as possible and play from your nearest point of relief.
Turf laid 3 weeks ago is establishing well, and will be left unattended until we are confident light mowing will not damage it. Areas which need patching or more seed, will be attended to but with a combination of more turf or the use of a bespoke over-seeder. We will wait until the ground warms up a little more to do this.
Please do not take your trolleys through areas marked GUR. We were very disappointed to see the damage as pictured in the attached photo on our 8th hole this
morning.
Work around the 15th green has finished, and this week we were able to get our machines back on the putting surface. It is improving by the week and should be playable very soon.
Our greens will be hand cut today, holes changed and bunkers raked as we get ready for the weekend. Please help us out by repairing pitch marks on our greens and raking the bunkers after you play from them.
Next Monday we will be busy on 2 fronts;
We will be helping our volunteers to make further progress in the area to the right of the 16th fairway. We are very grateful for their work to remove some of the fallen timber and debris which are a result of storm damage. They’re also transferring saplings from other areas of the course to replace some of the lost trees. In time more planting will be introduced in this area.
The group has been very careful not to damage settled log piles which have become vital to the many species which have found shelter there.
On Monday we will also be taking delivery of our new verticutter cassette system. A vital part of our armoury to keep our greens in good condition. And the demonstration of a robotic rough mower will begin. We are very keen to see if this is something that we can use to good effect.
Do keep an eye out for the robot...but remember as they won’t have a kindly gentleman on board waiting for you to play, your ball will be at risk if it lands ahead of its run!!
And finally;
We have asked that this item goes out to you by email, and also be placed on the How Did I Do App under Club News.
But we really want you to see everything from us on the App. It keeps these updates in order for us all, rather than you having to react (or not!) to an email.
The App is the best place to get notifications about the course, and we will use it to host local rules, and all of our updates this season.
Please download it using the link in the email which sent this update to you. Should you have any issues doing so, please contact the office.
Thank you.
Enjoy your weekend.
The Greens Team.
