A query has been brought up by certain members in regard to the wording sent out recently about Preferred Lies. For clarification please note the following:
"Pick & Place E2/ Preferred Lies E3 (In accordance with the rules of golf)
When a players ball lies in a part of the general area cut to a fairway height or less the player may take relief once by placing the ball or another ball, and playing from this relief area."
Explanation. If you play a ball and it lands on the fairway, or the fringe of a green, a player is entitled to mark and pick up the original ball clean it and place it within 6 inches of the marker no closer to the hole or a player is entitled to use an alternative ball,
Preferred Lies Rule E2/E3 is the only time a player may change his ball during the playing of a hole.
Just to further clarify: If a ball cannot be found anywhere during the playing of a hole, regardless whether a player thinks it may be plugged, then the ball is considered lost and the shot must be replayed from the same point as the previous shot was played and incurs a one shot penalty.
