Today we witnessed an epic match of golf from our Blackwood & Mahee GC members against a very strong Dunmurry team. With two matches at home and two away it was nail biting stuff, particularly for the team Captain, Marty Mckenzie. His meticulous preparations ensured those selected were well paired giving every team player the opportunity to go out and perform to the best of their ability. Although watching from the side lines Marty was mentally playing every shot along with those performing.
Our away team of Billy Andrews/James Bell made the comeback of all comebacks having been three down during the match to come back and win despite giving away eleven shots to their opponents. Unfortunately, the second away team of James Wade/John Stevenson were not so lucky and lost their match. With one point secured away from home, it was back to Blackwood were David Prentice/Ross McCrea won their match in a very close contest. The second home team of Chris Duff/Ken McMaster managed to stay in contention until the seventeenth hole but just fell short. With a result of two matches each, it was the dreaded playoff.
David Prentice/Ross McCrea took up the challenge and played some sublime shots worthy of any televised golf. Despite giving away shots to their opponents they took it to the fifth hole before losing out to the Dunmurry twosome.
