Club news and weekly round-up
It was a busy Bank Holiday week at Mount Murray last week with loads of competition options to suit all tastes and abilities.

Events got underway on Wednesday with Clubday sponsored by The Spa at Comis. A three way 20 point countback was required to arrive at the final result which saw Paul Mariott snatch victory from Sam Tipper and Dudley Kotzen.

In the Clubday Order of Merit Peter Griffiths maintains his lead on 43 with Dan Halligan chasing on 26.

Thursday’s casual roll-up saw Andrew Horne scoop the cash on 36 points leaving Andy Kewley empty handed in second place on 32.

Into the weekend for the Okell’s Summer Series Open18 hole multi-tee stableford. With the weather set to be calm and sunny, scores were expected to be good and we were certainly not disappointed. Leading the way with a superb 40 points was junior member Zac Moore followed by a five-way card playoff scenario to decide the podium. The final outcome saw Alyn Williams take second followed by Barbara Drinkwater, Dean Hogan, Joe Brough and Damon Waddington.

In the associated Okell’s Order of Merit, Zac Moore leads the way on 31 points from Richard Taylor on 23.

The Cherry Godfrey monthly medal off the challenging white tees produced some remarkable performances with anything more than a net 69 not even making the top five. Andy Kewley’s short game proved to be the deciding factor with a stunning net 64 to take the honours in both gross and net categories. Josh Dudley shot net 66 to take second place with Caleb Kewley and Eva Moore on 68 and Joe Brough completing the top five with 69. Andy Kewley and David Kay lead the way in the Order of Merit on 15 points apiece, early days yet though.

The junior section had a fun afternoon on Sunday with lots going on in addition to a 9 and 18 hole competition. Adam McDowell won the 9 holer with an excellent 22 points and Luke Begley signed for 39 points to take the other one. Thanks to the team of organisers who also provided tons of food for players and parents to enjoy.

There was a 4 person Waltz Am-Am on Bank Holiday Monday which tested the mathematical skills of those entering! Winning with 80 points were Messrs Taylor, Brown, Mansell and Clague with second place going to the team comprising of Philbin, Walton Kinley and Birney with 79 points.

Coming up this week is the Summer Clubday sponsored by The Spa at Comis on Wednesday, the casual roll-up on Thursday and the Okell’s Summer Series stableford moves to Sunday to make way for Saturday’s Professional's Day, the format of which is to be announced.

All tee times bookable through HDID in the normal way.
