May 10 – Ladies Yorkshire Championships
We had 3 ladies represent Bedale at this event (hosted at Moortown) with 45 competitors. Congratulations to all of them and thank you for representing the club so well. Hannah Bowe finished 2nd in both the Gross and Nett competitions. Clare Bevan finished 12th in the Gross competition. Di Clark finished 10th in the Nett competition.
May 11 – Ladies A Team
We had a wonderful day at Cleckheaton. The course is wonderful - in great condition and very tricky in places. The refreshments and hospitality were great. It was an extremely close 3-2 defeat. Well done to Jo and Pam our winners, I think having played the course last week certainly was a big help for them. Well played team and thank you. Jo Worrall, Pam Rawlin, Rachel Holden (c), Sally Hunt and Kathleen Allison.
May 11 – Gents B Team
12 intrepid Bainbridge Team members travelled to Romanby Golf Club for our second fixture of the 2026 campaign, our first away fixture this year. Who said summer was here, with woolly hats and extra layers donned the match started with a multi tee start. The weather gods played their part and the evening warmed up slightly as the matches progressed. The course was in great condition and we were hosted brilliantly by Craig (manager), Jabba (Vice Captain) and the whole Romanby team, thanks to them all. Played in the usual friendly, but competitive nature the results favoured Bedale with a narrow 7-5 victory for Bedale. The winning point being secured by Father and Son duo of Andy and Harry Balsillie. Well done to all the team for representing the club in the usual fashion.

May 13 – Gents Winter Knockout Final
Winter is officially over at Bedale Golf Club as the long delayed Final of the Gents Winter Pairs Knockout for the Steele Trophy was finally completed at the 5th time of trying. Scott Gray and Jim Phillips took on Graham Seel and Mike Edwards in conditions that included rain and hail perhaps fitting for a winter competition. Graham Seel was the star of the show and twice holed out from off the green and carried himself and Mike to a 5 and 4 win.

A lovely day at Ripon for B1 team. Not as wet as we expected. A very friendly result 2 1/2 -2 1/2 well played ladies. A lovely bunch of ladies and great hospitality.

May 17 – Harrogate Union Second Division Team Championships
Bedale are Harrogate Union 2026 2nd Division Team Champions!! Bedale gentlemen’s section entered 2 teams of 4 players with handicap ranges of 12.1 – 20.9 who arrived at Ilkley Golf Club to play a scratch competition against the rest of the Union Clubs. Anyone who has ventured there will know just how treacherous the first 7 holes can be, with water in play all up the left hand side and a fairly brisk breeze blowing into their faces on those holes. The gentlemen played some really good golf and as the scores started to come in it was evident that the scoring would have to be handicap equivalent or better to be competitive in the field of 20 teams.
Bedale Team A came in with scores of 84, 84, 87 & 88 to give a total of 343. Bedale Team B had scores of 83, 91, 91 & 94 to give a total of 359. Jamie Nelson, Graham Seel, Ric Noble and Peter JC Hoyle (Team A) came out eventual winners being 5 shots clear of 2nd place. James Moore, Mike Elsdon, Ady Lazenby and Andy Balsillie (Team B) finished a very respectable 6th place. A brilliant performance from the players which highlights the strengths and depth of the mid handicap range at Bedale Golf Club. Well done gents.
Also, a big shout out to James Moor who finished individual 3rd out of 84 competitors on the day.
