Following a well-attended Extraordinary General Meeting, a vote was taken to approve the budget proposed by the Board. This positive outcome allows us to move forward with a number of important projects, most notably the replacement of the irrigation system.
There is certainly a busy period ahead, but please be assured that the Board and staff will continue working hard on behalf of the Club and its members.
Subscriptions
The subscription fee for 7-day playing members will remain unchanged at £1,550, the same as last year.
Members who meet the qualifying criteria and are aged 80 or over as at 1 July will receive a 50% discount, while members aged 31 and under will receive age-related discounts in line with the current structure.
Payment Options
Members will now have the option to pay subscriptions by nine equal monthly Direct Debit (DD) payments, commencing on 1 July.
If you would like to pay by DD, please contact the office once you receive your invoice and we will forward the necessary link so arrangements can be completed in time.
Members who prefer to pay as usual may continue to do so either through the office or via V1.
Only if you have previously paid using the 50:25:25 method (50% on 1 July and 25% for the next two months) then you can continue to do so.
• No interest or penalties will be charged on DD payments.
• Members paying by instalments will still receive their guest voucher allocation.
• As previously advised, this will now consist of four half-price guest vouchers rather than two complimentary vouchers.
If you are not intending to renew your membership, we would appreciate you informing the office at your earliest convenience.
Irrigation Project
With the budget now agreed, we are optimistic about recovering membership levels seen in 2025 and moving forward positively as a Club.
We have now completed the tendering process for the irrigation replacement project and believe we have identified the right contractor to undertake the work. Although the proposed cost is higher than originally anticipated, we are satisfied that all possible avenues have been explored and feel that delaying the project would likely increase costs further.
The optimum time for the works to take place is at the end of September and, if delayed, we risk losing the contractor’s availability as demand from other clubs remains high.
Further EGM – 10 June
A calling notice will shortly be issued for a further Extraordinary General Meeting to be held on 10 June.
We are hoping to arrange for a representative from the preferred contractor to attend and present the proposed scheme in detail. In addition, we expect a member of the Irrigation Procurement Team to provide further insight into the process and recommendations.
The projected cost of the scheme is expected to exceed £840,000. The Board proposes to fund this through a combination of:
• Term memberships
• Life memberships
• Short-term member bonds
• External borrowing, if required
We would not bring this proposal forward unless we were confident it was achievable.
What we ask from members on 10 June is the opportunity to present the proposed scheme fully and, if appropriate, to seek your support through a vote. Should the vote be positive, we intend to make an immediate commitment to the contractor in order to secure the project timetable.
The meeting itself will not focus on funding discussions. Instead, I intend to circulate the various funding options to members separately by email, together with detailed FAQs and opportunities for members to express interest in supporting the project under the proposed schemes.
Naturally, the less external borrowing required, the lower the overall cost impact for members.
As always, I am very happy to answer any questions members may have.
Kind regards,
Chairman
