I would like to say a huge thank you to Bungay and Waveney Golf Club for hosting the SLCGA championships over two weekends in May.
The course was looking lovely, even in the tempestuous conditions - the greens were in fabulous order. The green keeping team had clearly worked incredibly hard and their efforts were really appreciated.
The Club house was as welcoming as always and the players and organisers were well fed and watered. The quality of the food and service were excellent. Lils and Chris were very helpful and Suffolk Ladies President, Carole Deslandes, was very grateful to them for the woolly hat and handwarmers - making her starter duties more tolerable.
The 36-hole scratch championship title went to Alice Barlow +1.2 (Bury) for the 5th time with rounds of 73 and 76. The Nett title was won by Mia Barningham 5.3 (Brett Vale) with rounds of 82 and 78.
The Matchplay took place the following weekend: Alice Barlow (Bury) beat Emily Evans (Newton Green) 5&4. Shannon Noble (Ipswich) beat Mandy Williamson (Haverhill) 2&1, Mia Barningham (Brett Vale) beat Tina Jeary (Flempton) 3&2 and Josie Knights (Ipswich) beat Zoe Schofield (Rookery Park) 6&4.
Alice Barlow met Shannon Noble in the gross match-play semi-final winning 5&3. And Mia Barningham met Josie Knights winning 3&2.
In the nett match-play semi-final, Jo Miller (Hintlesham) met Trudy Read (Ipswich Purdis) winning 3&2. And Carole Bostock (Rookery Park) met Karen Larbey (Ipswich) winning 1 up.
The two finals were played in lovely weather and were closely contended with Alice Barlow retaining the Matchplay Championship Gross Trophy and Jo Miller winning the Matchplay Championship Nett Plate.
I would especially like to thank the members at Bungay for giving up some valuable tee-times over the 3 days and for being so helpful.
Emily Evans.
