That’s right !!! a comprehensive victory against our West Coast friends. Great fun day on Sunday 17th May at the Burgess. I hope all the members representing RBGS enjoyed the day. Weather was kind and the catering for lunch and evening dinner was fantastic (as always!). Thankyou Mark, Piotr, et al.
We have just played 2 of our main annual events within the space of a week. They were:
Victoria Day Competititon – The handicap event (Croall Cup) was won with a net 66 by Colin Stevenson, and the WK Laidllaw Trophy was won with a gross 70 by our current club Champion, Alan Ker.
Spring Meeting – The Lady Roseberry Challenge Cup was won by with a great net 64 by Dmytro Mysyk . The Scratch Gold Medal (Gold Medal of the Society) was won by James Kempster in an 18 hole play off against Scott Brymer. Both Scoring gross 69 last Saturday, a strong finish from James over the closing holes in the playoff gave him the win. FYI, an 18 hole playoff has always been the case for a tie and indeed is the same for the other main gold medal competitions i.e. the Summer and Autumn Meetings. As the oldest gold medal at the club. It has been played for since 1816. Prior to this, the only prizes for competitions at the Burgess were ‘Prize/Premium’ golf balls. It is therefore the oldest medal/trophy at the Burgess. James will now have his name forever placed on the honours board in the Spike Bar.
Well done to all the winners.
As you will have seen from the emails, entries are open for the Captain v Deputy Captain Supper Match on the 14th/15th August. Please consider entering what we hope will be a repeat of the successful re-introduction of the Supper Match last year. Most importantly a brilliant opportunity for new members to get involved.
We hope everyone is enjoying the small improvements/enhancements all now in operation i.e. Water bottle filler, new Practice net facility, new flag pins etc. Reflective prisms have now been fitted to the top of all the flagsticks. This helps considerably in picking up lasers; for those of you who use them.
'7&6 - The Dog Licence (2026)’ - On a lighter note there has for some time been a blackboard in the Half way house i.e. the 7&6 board (as per Royal Blackheath GC). This is just a bit of fun that has not been utilised to date. There will be some chalk provided to appropriately embarrass your defeated ‘friends’; should you choose to do so!! No erasing allowed (by management only!)
