What's been happening
Dear member

A gentle sigh of relief could be heard as the rain fell last night and this morning. With more showers forecast for the days ahead it might mean some stop/start golf but the course was definitely in need!

The course is in fabulous condition, greens, tees and approaches are excellent and with this weeks rain I'm sure the fairways will also perk up.... Thanks as always to our team on the course who go over and above especially at this time of year..

We are now very much into the golfing season with club matches, scratch matches, junior matches, club knockouts and weekly competition play the course is busy! As always Matt and I will do our very best to accommodate tee time requests, especially for matches but please be reasonable with the time window.

Given how busy the course is, it's vital as members we do our upmost to care for the course and adhere to the local rules / playing etiquette as we go round.

- Please take a divot bag with you
- Fix as many pitch marks as you can please
- Rake Bunkers
- Call faster groups through
- Adhere to the call up holes on 1st and 4th (once on the green let the group behind hit up)
- Ring the bell on holes 5 & 11
- Play without delay

There's been much chatter about slow play (again) following the last pairs major. It was a 5 hour round for the back end of the field. I was asked what the club is doing about it? It's not the club that's slow!!
As a golfer, as per the rules, you are expected to play without delay, if you take a bit of time over your shots ( like I do ) then walk quicker in between your shots and always be ready to play. In a nutshell, speed up where you can.
If you're playing with someone that's clearly very slow / dithering / behind all the time, tell them !! You don't need to be rude, simply say we're losing some ground on the group ahead guys, we all need to speed up.... or words to that affect.

NEW COFFEE MACHINE
The new coffee machine near the 1/2 way hatch is now properly installed and in use, massive thanks to members Matt Smith and Chris Jays who fitted the new kitchen units and work top for it to stand on...If you're in the market for an excellent carpenter these are your guys!!

NEW DRIVING RANGE APP
The new app has had a wobble.. It's kicked several members out and won't let you back in! I'm trying to resolve this with the supplier. If you have a driving range card you can use that, it mirrors the app. If not, you can buy QR codes from the shop at members rate.
Apologies for the inconvenience.

JUNIOR SECTION REPORT - Junior Organiser - Jon Turonnet

I’d like to start by welcoming all the new juniors to the club, I hope to meet as many of you as possible over the next few weeks either on the course or at roll up.

The section is growing which is great to see this is shown by the increased participation at our Friday roll up sessions, it’s great to see the juniors progressing week on week. I understand that occasionally it can be a little slow and for that I apologise, but please do bear in mind that whilst our juniors do have handicaps some are quite high, we are also trying to teach them the rules as we go round as some are new to competitive golf. We will always try to let you play through if required.

May saw the start of the junior season which is now in full swing with our juniors playing both internal OOM events and also kick off in both the Tavistock League and Vale League

We’ve had 2 internal events so far, 1 stableford and 1 Medal. Congratulations to Mr Oliver England for winning the stableford and to Mr Jack Skelton for winning the Medal.

Vale League
We played our first fixture away at The Bedfordshire on the 17th which offered a very difficult challenge, but I’m pleased to say that the team secured a brilliant 5-1 victory, congratulations to:
Jack Skelton
Seb Leverett
Ollie Clark
Andy Hughes
Sophia Turonnet
Luke Eydmann

Tavistock League
Our first fixture was at South Beds on the 31st, unfortunately home advantage was a telling factor with South Beds beating ourselves, John O’Gaunt and The Bedfordshire.

Upcoming fixtures

Sat 6th June - Tavistock home leg

Sunday 14th June - Inter Club at Dunstable Downs

Saturday 20th June - Tavistock at JOG
Sunday 21st June - Vale League home vs Aspley Guise

Saturday 27th June - Internal OOM medal
Sunday 28th June - Vale League at Chiltern Forest

Thanks
Jon

STARTING TIMES
Please be reminded that the first tee time mid week is 7am and 6:45am at weekends. Please adhere to these times and do not start before your allotted tee time.

DOG POO BINS - USE THEM
We love our dogs here at Millbrook. Please be reminded to keep your dog on a lead at all times (this includes the bar) and pick up after it, placing your bags in the bins provided... Don't put dog waste in the normal course bins please...
Being able to play golf with your dog and sit with them in the bar is a luxury, don't spoil this luxury for people who do adhere to the rules.

PRO SHOP
The shop is almost fully stocked for the summer ahead, just a reminder that you can't buy Motocaddy trolleys any cheaper, anywhere else. That goes for the majority of products available on the market. We've recently sold sets of wedges, sets of irons and a few drivers at a better price than our members could find elsewhere, so if you're in the market for some new kit, ask us first!!
The 4 dozen Pro V1's for the price of 3 dozen deal is ongoing!! Works out at £45 per doz. Why not go halves with a mate???
