This article refers to the boundary hedges along the left hand side of the 4th/13th Holes. The local rules state that a ball is out of bounds(OOB) beyond a boundary hedge. That means a ball under the hedge on these holes is in bounds so what are your options if your ball is unplayable?
1. Stroke-and-Distance Relief.
Replay the shot. This means returning to the tee in most instances and you can tee up. Penalty is one shot. If it’s your second/third shot etc you need to return to where you played the ball from, drop it and replay the shot. Penalty is one shot.
2. Back-on-the-Line Relief.
Go back as far as you want in line with the flag. This will not work on 4th/13th as it will take you further OOB.
3. Lateral Relief.
Take a two club length relief for one penalty shot from where the ball lies. The ball must be dropped within two club lengths and IMPORTANTLY not nearer the hole. If this does not give you a playable shot you may declare it unplayable again for another penalty shot etc.
