General
May has been a busy month, and the weather has been much better. Soil temperatures have
risen significantly since April. This has allowed us to see huge improvements across the course
as a whole. With the slow start, some areas still need a bit of time to recover. These areas will
receive more soil and seed to help them.
Pro - Turf were in, and the Air2G2 went down 9 inches with a blast of 40 psi of air. This will relieve
deep compaction and allow the roots to mo ve further down. All greens were completed in a day.
I have already started to see the benefits of the work that was carried out.
The irrigation controller is now back and working as it should be. I have been taking regular
readings of the greens through the dry spell, only using water when we need to.
We need to get more divot bags. Members are either keeping them, or they are getting blown oH
the hooks.
I have been given a quote for an information sign. If anyone knows of a sponsor for this, please
come and talk to me.
Greens
The greens have been performing well recently. We are still cutting at 4 mm. We might lo wer this
at the end of June to 3 mm, depending on the weather. Due to the seed heads now showing, we
have had to push back the verti - cut. A summer granular fertiliser has been applied (10 - 0 - 15).
We are up to date on all the nutrition programmes. A light to p dressing is planned, and this will
be done depending on the weather. Areas that have been struggling have been overseeded a few
times now. With the soil temperatures now being high enough, we will start to see recovery. The
latest overseeding was done wi th bent seed.
Tees/Aprons
Both tees and aprons are doing really well this year. They are both due a liquid feed, and this will
be done as soon as possible. Regular divoting has been carried out.
Fairways
The fairways have had their first strong liquid fe ed, with a mix of Primo (growth regulator). They
will not be due anything until the end of the month, or possibly next month. For presentation,
DewCure will be applied to help remove the dew, which in turn will help with any grass clippings
when the fairwa ys are cut.
Machinery
All cylinder units have now been sent away for regrinding. We had a small problem with one of
the ball joints on the Toro 3400, but that is now fixed.
