Men’s Club Championships – The Results What a fantastic two days of golf we had for this year’s Men’s Club Championships. Scoring was impressive throughout, and with the leaderboard so tightly packed in several categories, it made for a thrilling finish! In the Gross competition, Josh Carpenter set the standard from the outset with a superb level-par 69 on day one. The chasing pack gave it their best effort on day two, but Josh’s opening-round advantage proved too much to overcome, as he eventually finished an incredible 14 shots clear of the field to claim the title. A special mention must go to Club Captain Mark Hyland for battling his way to a memorable opening-round 103, and to League Captain Ryan Fazakerley for a determined defence of his title, posting back-to-back rounds of 89. The Nett competition was a much closer affair. Adam Uttley led the way after day one with an excellent nett 67, closely pursued by George Blakeway and Geoff Evans. One of the stories of the weekend belonged to Paul Judge, who played brilliantly and stood on the 9th hole of Foxes Run—his 36th and final hole—at seven under his handicap for the round. Deciding to play it safe with an iron off the tee, he promptly lost his ball and ran up a seven. A harsh lesson that sometimes “safe” isn’t always safe! The costly mistake left Paul in third place overall. Sam Evans enjoyed an outstanding championship, finishing runner-up in the Gross competition and also taking second place in the Nett. However, he was denied on both fronts, finishing three shots behind Nett champion Geoff Evans (no relation!). Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you to everyone who took part.
