Greene King Greensomes and Ladies Weston
Gorleston Ladies win against Rushmere
GREENE KING SATURDAY 20TH JUNE An almost full field Tee’d off in glorious conditions on Saturday, a mixed field with the exception of Juniors due to alcohol being included in the prizes and a can of beer to each competitor if they so wished to take one on offer as they picked their scorecards up. The pace of play was good, no group took longer than 4 hours to get round. There were prizes for the top 3 pairings and nearest the pins on all Par 3’s and nearest in two on the 9th. If Waddingtons developed the game Monopoly then a chap called Clyde adopted the ‘monopoly’ to take nearest the pins on the 4th, 7th and 9th although I’m not sure if it was his partner Ben who hit the 2nd shot on the 9th or Clyde. Bob Richardson took the prize on the 11th. If anyone has a Corner shop to rent Clyde is considering opening an Off License. It was a very close affair at the top, unfortunately a pairing in the top 3 were disqualified for an error on their scorecard, no need to go into detail but please make sure all cards are clearly marked and signed and it’s your card. Onto the results, 3rd place went to Nick Furzer and Dom Edington with 40pts on countback from Billy Ellis and Lewis Child, 2nd place also on countback went to Adrian Grant and Andre Vazquez with 41pts but winning with another 41pts were Ian Beale (remember that name, it’ll be a household name soon if this was written in 1985) and Martin Potter also with 41 points but a huge 25pts on the back 9. Big thanks to all who played and stayed for the presentation, we do try and get these results out ASAP but sometimes people are a little absent minded, not on the occasion though. A very formal presentation was made afterwards by Captain Cliffy aided by Jock Sparrow, aka Eddie Reid. LADIES WESTON AWAY TO RUSHMERE MONDAY 29TH JUNE The only weekday fixture of the season of 6 matches against the other Weston clubs, 3 home and 3 away turned into a bit of a nightmare logistically as with 6 days to the match no effort was made by the home team regarding after match lunch options and whilst sorting this problem out the bombshell of 10am 1st tee time rather than 11am was dropped on us which was a problem for one the teams stalwarts. The team itself was already short of the majority of low handicap players that this competition is based on. I’d like to say here a massive thanks to Jenny Watson and now 13th member of the squad Tonia Connor for stepping in at the last-minute give or take 5 days. Sorry no Photo of the Ladies but what a performance they put in and all the ladies had caddies but why team captain Marie listened to her buffoon of a caddie we’ll never know. The girls done well and there were some tight matches with 2 wins, 2 all square and a loss which resulted in a 3-2 win for Gorleston which could put them in with a chance of promotion to Division 2 after getting 6 points from a possible 8 with 2 matches to play. Today I think the fact every lady had a caddy/companion may have got the team through this away win with 3 having never played the course before, thanks to Debbie, Maureen, Roz and Mark for the support and trolley pushing. Next match July 11th at home to Seckford Stuart Pearce Chairman of Competitions
