Course Report - Jun
Course Manager Report – June 2026
Weather Overview - June was characterised by frequent rainfall events interspersed with short periods of warmer, drier weather. Up to 23 June the course received 132.4 mm of rainfall, considerably higher than average and already exceeding April's total. Several heavy rainfall events maintained elevated moisture levels within the upper rootzone. Growth Potential averaged approximately 0.81, supporting steady turf growth. Course Conditions - Strong turf growth continued throughout June with improved density and colour across the course. Greens remained healthy but surface firmness was periodically reduced following repeated rainfall events. Despite softer conditions, putting quality remained high with consistent pace and ball roll. Maintenance Operations - • Verticutting on greens • Sarrel rolling of greens • Sand topdressing following aeration • Regular mowing and rolling • Growth regulator programme • Wetting agent applications • Foliar nutritional and plant health applications • Disease and moisture monitoring • Back-lapping of GP400 and Eclipse 360 greens mowers to improve cutting quality Agronomic Observations - Repeated rainfall reinforced the importance of Caldwell Golf Club's long-term programme of organic matter reduction and greens drainage. Objective GS3 data demonstrates that despite wet conditions, putting performance has remained at a high standard. Performance Monitoring (GS3) Metric Result Green Speed 10 ft 4 in Smoothness 2.62 Trueness 0.70 Surface Moisture 30.88% Surface Temperature 74.12°F (23.4°C) Salinity 0.31 dS/m Machinery & Operational Notes - • Jacobsen Eclipse 360 Elite greens mower repaired following a premature non-cutting cylinder bearing failure under warranty. • PTO spigot replaced on the Mega Twister blower, restoring a vital machine for course presentation and debris clearance. • Hustler mower drive belts replaced following routine wear. • Roller transport bearings replaced for the second time this year. This recurring issue will continue to be monitored. • Jacobsen GP400 and Eclipse 360 greens mowers back-lapped to restore cylinder sharpness and improve cutting quality. • Jacobsen fairway mower remains out of service pending delivery of replacement parts. • Golf shoe cleaner has reached the end of its serviceable life and now requires replacement. Summary - June has been a productive month despite challenging weather conditions. High rainfall limited surface firmness but turf quality continues to improve. Objective GS3 data confirms that green speed and trueness remain at a high standard, I expect smoothness to improve after Poa Annua stops seeding. The focus moving into July will remain on light topdressing, moisture management, targeted nutrition and continued organic matter reduction.
