Club Championships 2026
Club Champs report
Yesterday was Club Championship Day with the Men’s, Senior Men and Ladies Club Championships being decided. As reported earlier Anabelle Lucas-Villar retained the Ladies Club Championship with a second round one-over par 72 for a four-over par total of 146. It was a day for retentions as Sam Quail retained his Club Championship with rounds of 68 and 72 for a level par 140. His opening round consisted of five birdies at the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 12th and 18th. His drop shots coming at holes 7, 8 and 14. He was pushed by Alex Guelpa who carded a one-under par 69. His card was a measure of consistency with two birdies – 8 & 18 – and a single dropped shot at the par 3 16th. Young William Aikenhead was lying in the third place following a one-over par 71. In the afternoon, it was very tight after the first nine, with Sam extending his lead over Alex by a single stroke. However, a lost ball by Alex on the tough 13th meant Sam increased his lead by a further two shots and he gained a further stroke at the 17th hole. Two pars at the last meant Sam had won by 5 shots. Unfortunately, William had faded in the afternoon and carded an 81. But a 75 and a 73 by Kealan Quigg for a 148 secured him third spot. In the handicap event, the in-form Philip Bolton took the trophy with two nett scores of 70 & 67 for a nett total of 137. The Seniors Championship, played over one round, was won with a (gross) 74 from Chris Haws. Playing off his 8 handicap, he carded two 37s with no birdies. Runner-up was Mike Street, on a countback from Gary Denton who both shot 75. All the winners on the day are pictured with Men’s Captain Mat Hague.
