Dear Members, Following Tuesday's East Riding Planning Committee meeting, we wanted to give you a clear and factual update on the application relating to the land near the 15th hole, as we are aware there has been a good deal of discussion around the club. What happened: The committee deferred its decision, as some members felt they had not been given sufficient detail on how the proceeds of the sale would be spent. The important point: Brough Golf Club did provide full financial information and costings as part of our submission to the Planning Officer. Unfortunately, they omitted to include this information in the pack circulated to committee members ahead of the meeting. To put this beyond doubt, it was sent directly to all committee members immediately after the meeting by ourselves. What happens next: We expect the application to return to the committee in early August. This additional time allows us to further strengthen our case and set out in full detail how the funds will be allocated across the course, clubhouse and other essential repairs. Reasons to be positive: While the deferral is frustrating, there was genuine support for the application at the meeting — it was deferred, not refused — and we are optimistic about securing a positive outcome next time round. We will keep you fully informed as things progress, and there will be a further update following the Board meeting on Monday. On a happier note, the next two days bring the Brough Classic — a fantastic two days of golf.
