Memorial Day Scramble
34 birdies and 3 eagles!
The day started a little cooler than it has been recently, but it wasn't long before both the temperature and the golf began to heat up. Eight teams took to the course in a Texas Scramble format with a shotgun start, and there was no shortage of quality golf on display. Shouts of celebration echoed around the course as an impressive 34 birdies and 3 eagles were recorded – a testament to some excellent team play throughout the day. We were also delighted to welcome Ken Hudd's daughter, Tracey, who came along to see where her dad had spent so many happy hours and to meet some of his regular playing partners. Together with Sue O'Brien, she presented the Paul O'Brien Trophy to the winning team of Nick Simmonds, Myles Hannon, Amanda James and Jack Harley. It was particularly fitting that Amanda's name will now be added to the trophy that was established in memory of her father. A huge thank you to Heather, Winnie, Ed, Rick and Katy for providing the sandwiches, crisps, sausage rolls and cakes, which were a very welcome sight after 3–4 hours of golf in the summer sunshine. We raised £567 for the two charities, so congratulations to everyone who took part and helped make it another enjoyable Memorial Day.
