"My Vice-Captain Ivor generously donated a bottle of vintage Dom Perignon champagne for the putting challenge which helped raise £117 towards the total charity funds on the day. The lucky (or skilful) winner was Andy Harrison. Thanks also to our professionals Gareth & Lydia for setting it up and encouraging everyone to have a go. There were three nice bottles of single malt whisky available for the nearest the pin prizes on each of the par threes. The winners were Brian Clifford (3rd), Sam Moore (5th) and Gordon Skinner (11th). I'll get the prizes to you all this week. The halfway house was a feast of home baking which was very well received and thoroughly enjoyed. My thanks for the days of preparation and manning the halfway house all day go to Wendy Wem, my wife Dorothy, daughter Emma, and granddaughters Beth & Cassie. Every one of them baked and helped enormously to make the day such a success. Special thanks to Dorothy who worked so hard all week to ensure that everything was just right. Their efforts raised the fantastic sum of £513. 127 players took part on another hot day (no weather call off this year!) with some very good scoring. Nigel Shaw went out in the first group at 7 a.m. and led the field with a fantastic 67 but was pipped on countback by Dermot Keegan who will receive the Captain's prize on presentation night. Well done, Dermot. So, a very sincere thank you to everyone who played or volunteered to help on the day.
