On Saturday Gorleston Ladies and Gorleston’s more accomplished Juniors both played match play format games against opposition from Seckford Ladies and Halesworth Juniors respectively. The ladies were able to field a strong side of Marie Norman, Jules Harbord, Paula Ledger, Gail Chapman and Leigh Denny against promotion rivals Seckford and what a day it turned out to be with a crunching 5-0 victory for Gorleston with the first 3 matches all being decided on the 18th green for 1up victories and with Gail winning 5&4 and Leigh winning 3&2 completing the whitewash of a strong Seckford team. This has left Gorleston with a last away game against Flempton which could possibly decide who wins the Division 3 league. The newly created East Suffolk Junior League which is to get the youngsters acclimatised to match-play golf saw our team of Riley Finch, Henry Stevenson, Olly and Alfie Biss, Max Leuty and Harry Page take on a strong Halesworth side with all the boys having very close handicaps in their pairings. All the boys put in excellent performances and I’m happy to say Gorleston had a resounding 5-1 victory. Special mention to Riley who filled in at very short notice due to a late withdrawal through injury by one of the Gorleston boys. Stuart Pearce Chairman of Competitions
