The Club Championships took place this weekend at HH, with a 36-hole stroke play competition consisting of 18 holes on Saturday and the final 18 holes on Sunday. Players competed for two trophies: the Club Champion, awarded to the player with the lowest combined gross score over the two days, and the Best Nett trophy for the lowest combined nett score. In another spell of very hot weather, 19 players teed off on Saturday morning. With the course playing long and fast, the testing conditions still produced some excellent golf. Notable gross scores included Neil Smith with 85, Kristian Fomes with 84, and Colin Allen leading the way with a superb 81. David Kear produced the standout performance in the nett competition with an incredible 62. As a result, he received a four-shot handicap reduction for Sunday’s round. Even so, the rest of the field, sitting 10 shots behind after day one, still had another 18 holes to try and catch him. Sunday morning arrived with more hot weather, but this time accompanied by stronger winds blowing from the opposite direction to normal. While this made a few holes slightly easier, it turned others into a real challenge. The heat and demanding championship conditions took their toll, with 17 players teeing off on Sunday morning. In the hot and blustery conditions, several players found the course particularly tough, and fewer golfers completed the round than started it. Despite the challenging conditions, there were some outstanding performances. Colin Allen secured the Club Championship with a superb 36-hole gross total of 168, while Kristian Fomes finished runner-up on 172. In the nett competition, David Kear held on to claim the title with an impressive two-round total of 139. Despite his handicap reduction and the more difficult conditions, he still returned a nett 77 on Sunday. Stephen Finn finished second on 146, with Ian Cox close behind in third on 147. Congratulations to Colin Allen, our 2026 Club Champion, and David Kear, our Best Nett winner. Both played some excellent golf over the weekend and thoroughly deserved their victories.
