Captain Mat Hague and his team successfully retained the Coupe de la Manche at the Lancresse Links in Guernsey this weekend. Leading by 20 points after the Dinard leg, the Saturday singles saw some solid scores with Paul Le Rougetel (nett 68), Stephen Rafferty (nett 68), Mat Hague (nett 70) and Tim Herbert (nett 71) being the leading scorers to maintain an overnight lead. Nonetheless the foursomes were nerve jangling. All those who scored well in the singles struggled in the first two pairings. But the experienced Robbie Messervy and the youthful Ricci Cook scored a creditable nett 72 to leave Royal Jersey in a decent position. And when Henry Hill and the “in form” Phil Bolton shot an impressive nett 69 the victory was secured. Magnifique!! The first Royal Jersey back-to-back victory for 20 years. In addition to the above, the annual scratch matches against La Moye for the Kutch and Keal Trophies were played at the Royal Jersey on Saturday. Dan Burchell's first team won the Kutch Cup with a 9-3 victory and the second team managed a halved match. Sadly, La Moye won the match last year and retained the trophy. Finally, Adam Dalton played in the Cairns Cup - a Ryder Cup style match for disabled golfers between the USA and Europe - and he helped Europe win the trophy for the very first time.
