Well done to all that braved the wind and rain for Captains Day yesterday. With all the recent hot sunny weather starting to take its toll on the golf course, it was much needed but all the same its timing could have been better! Mr Captain - Paul Barnes put on an excellent day, welcoming all players to the 1st tee with his usual good humour and friendly banter. Thanks must go to Lady Captain Wendy Roberts, who helped out with the Halfway House, and to Ann Cawood who took time to make the delicious ginger cake. I'm sure we can all agree that Mr Captains selection of the finest pork pies was excellent, and they were very well received. Despite the tough conditions, 29 players set out, and all returned cards. There was a two, Phil Normanton birdied the 16th. A sleeve of balls will be on the bar. There were some special prizes, Nearest the pin on the 7/16th was won by Mike Thornber with 4 metres. Nearest the pin in 2 shots (from off the green) on the 3/12th was won by Ewan Carroll with a measurement of 8cms. The Captains prize and Trophy was won by Pete Roles, with a net 65, well done Pete, this really is an exceptional score. Pete wins the Captains Trophy which will be presented at the Men's Prize giving later in the year.
