No sooner have we had a our match with Royal Blackheath at Barnton, than the 4 man team of myself, Grant Pollock, Charlie Hunter and Marcello Rodrigues represented the Burgess in the ‘Champagne’ Foursomes at Blackheath. This ‘talented’ team could not quite repeat the winning performance of the Burgess team last year, but certainly represented your club well on the social front! (See below RBGC Top table at Black Tie Dinner in evening – RBGC Captain , Fieldmarshall and Vice Captain).
Winner of the August MacDonald was Dylan Egelstaff with a net 67 (Gross 74). The best scratch score was James Kempster (again!) with a 70.
The winner of the Wednesday MacDonald (Scratch and Handicap) was Mark Gair with a brilliant net 65 (Gross 70).
Winners of the Mixed Sixsomes at the weekend were Michael & Lesley Roe.
Well done to all.
Myself and Willie Finlayson look forward to hosting our Captain V Deputy Captain Supper Match this weekend; dinner on Friday evening, Shot gun start Saturday morning and Barbecue …….and yes Steve Burton, you will need to buy jacket and tie!!
The Summer League Team convincingly beat Duddingston in the Quarter Finals and now face Craigielaw on Sunday (16th August) at Royal Musselburgh. The match starts at 11:30am and would be great to see some support from the Membership. Good luck to all playing.
After the 1956 and 1959 Penfold tournaments, wind the clock forward to 1965 and the Pringle of Scotland Championship held at the Royal Burgess. It was won by South African Cobie Legrange, who had won both the British and Australian Masters in the previous year. He opened with two 66’s before winning with a 279 total. Winners cheque of £750!
Again another amazing field including Peter Thomson, Christy O’Connor, Bob Charles, Tony Jacklin, Kel Nagle, Roberto de Vincenzo, & Neil Coles.
It is interesting to note that Peter Thomson finished 7th, seven strokes behind Legrange , before going on to win his 5th British Open at Royal Birkdale shortly afterwards.
