Royal Jersey Junior trip to Guernsey
Royal Jersey Junior trip to Guernsey
Thanks to Royal Guernsey the annual junior match against Royal Jersey was arranged on the day before the Royal Guernsey Junior Open. This meant that a party of 21 junior golfers from Royal Jersey travelled over by boat on Tuesday 11th August. The match was 4 ball better ball with 12 aside. There were wins for William Aikenhead and Jack Gallon; William Stratford and Callum McConnel; and, Jack Burchell and Eleanor Bourke with losses for Jacob Townsend and Henry Milan; Oliver Brown and Rylan McMahon; and, Oliver Vacher and Tom Langan. The match was tied 3 all but Royal Jersey retained the Trophy. Those not playing in the match enjoyed a practice round before the Open on Wednesday. 27 played in the Open from the white tees and were eligible to win the main trophy, whilst 14 played from the red tees for which there was a separate trophy. Callum McConnell scored an excellent 43 points to win the Royal Guernsey Junior Open Trophy. Oliver Vacher was 4th with 41 points, Oliver Brown 7th with 38 points and Jack Burchell 8th, also with 38 points. Gus Langan, Oliver Jost, William Aikenhead and Jacob Townsend scored 36 points. George Cavendish won the red tee trophy with an excellent 40 points with Torin Ruark in 3rd with 35 points. Chloe Cosnett, Liam Miller and Harry Broughton all scored 34 points. The plane journey home was filled with 21 very happy golfers, many who had enjoyed their first golf trip away from Jersey, all the trophies and some tired but happy parents - Dan Burchell, Melissa Bourke and Tracey Townsend, who had looked after the juniors on this highly successful trip which was partly funded by proceeds from the junior fundraiser day held earlier in the year.
