Portsalon Golf Club Celebrates Lady Captain Frances Shannon's Day
Portsalon Golf Club enjoyed a resounding success on Saturday, 22nd August 2026, as Lady Captain Frances Shannon's Day drew a fantastic turnout of men, ladies and invited guests, all blessed with ideal summer sunshine.
The day got underway with a single stableford competition, played over a course that members and visitors alike found to be in pristine condition — high praise for the club's green keepers, whose hard work throughout the season did not go unnoticed.
Off the course, the morning began with a spread of scones and tray bakes, served with tea and coffee. The celebrations continued into the evening with a wonderful meal, followed by the presentation of prizes, before the night rounded off with dancing to live music.
Thanks were also extended to the staff and management of the golf club for their great service and the delicious food served at dinner.
Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to everyone who volunteered in any way and helped make Lady Captain Frances Shannon's Day such an enjoyable and memorable occasion.

Kernaghan Cup & Shaw Shield Day at Portsalon
Thursday was a major day for our youngest competitors with the Kernaghan Cup and Shaw Shield taking place, competitions for juveniles both with GUI handicaps and without.
The Shaw Shield was won by Eve-Rose McManus with 36 points, beating Alfie Rodger and Ciaran Gallagher, both on 34 points each on the break of tie.
In the Kernaghan Cup, our winner was Harry Burke, who defeated Oisin Connor in the final. Well done also to the beaten semi-finalists, James Davidson and Con O'Bhaoil.
We had 70 young golfers taking to the course across both competitions on Thursday – a superb turnout.
Our thanks to the parents that came along and helped ensure everything went smoothly, and a very, very special word of gratitude to our junior convenors, Eamonn McConigley and Stephen Connolly, for their continued dedication to providing young golfers with a platform to progress in Portsalon.
Well done to our winners on the day and, indeed, to everyone that competed in these prestigious juvenile events.
