Betley Trophy & Midweek Stableford 8 Report
Another busy spell of competitive golf saw members taking on the challenge of both the Betley Trophy and Midweek Stableford 8, with some excellent scores returned, the course running long, greens excellent in condition. Betley Trophy In Division 1, it was Richard Durgan-Smith who came out on top with an impressive nett 70, earning himself the winner's prize and the satisfaction of seeing his name at the top of the leaderboard for Div 1. Close behind were David Edwards and Jonny Roberts, both carding nett 71s, with David edging second place on countback. Dave my mate the Eggman also securing lowest gross on the day. Division 1 1st Richard Durgan-Smith - 70 £60 2nd David Edwards - 71 & LG 70. £60 in total. 3rd Jonny Roberts - 71 £25 The real story of the day came in Division 2, where Ted Nicholson produced a superb nett 66 to secure victory of the Betley Trophy. This was made even more special as it marks Ted's first competition win. Everyone at the club will know how difficult that first victory can be to achieve, and Ted thoroughly deserved his success. A fantastic achievement for one of our younger players and hopefully the first of many wins to come. Playing along his dad Paul, who i am sure will have been very proud from what he saw. Maybe a bet on who ends next year on a lower handicap ha ha. Division 2 1st Ted Nicholson - 66 £70 2nd Steve Wilde - 68 £40 3rd Fred Coates - 73 £25 There were also plenty of celebrations for the Twos Club, with £5 pay-outs going to: Jordan Cotterell Peter Curtis-Brown Gary Cottiga Daniel Cross Luke Brett Jordan Witt Midweek Stableford 8 The midweek golfers were back in action for Stableford 8, where scoring conditions appeared a little more favourable. 21 taking to the field in some extremely hot conditions. Leading the way and following up his sons victory was Paul Nicholson, whose excellent 43 points proved too strong for the rest of the field and secured top spot. Nick Lea finished second with a very respectable 38 points, while Ray Cornwall completed the podium places on 35 points. Results 1st Paul Nicholson - 43 points £35 2nd Nick Lea - 38 points £25 3rd Ray Cornwall - 35 points £15 In the Twos competition, Nick Lea added another prize to his day, while Trevor Brennand helped himself to two twos and a welcome double payout. Still a few spaces remain for captains away day. Remember the tee booking is for booking only and the final tee times will be sorted in the week leading up to the event when final numbers are in.
