Seniors Club Championships The Seniors Club Championship on Sunday, the 23rd of August, saw 20 experienced players battle it out over 18 holes of Stroke Play competition. The accolades up for grabs were the 2026 Gross (lowest score) and Nett (lowest score after handicap) champions’ trophies. The conditions were nice and warm and conducive to good scores, which, after a few hours, quickly became apparent in an ever-changing leaderboard. The strong field did indeed deliver some competitive scores. When all the scores were collated, Pete Dela was the Seniors Champion, with a well-played gross score of 86. Colin Bailey was runner-up with 87, and Peter Phillips and Andy Venney, both with 90s, came in third. Congratulations to our champion and runners-up. The Nett trophy saw the leaderboard change like an episode of Wacky Races (a reference only the seniors will understand), with different players taking the spotlight. We then had a very interesting tie for 1st place, with Darren Edwards victorious with a nett 69 (3 under his handicap). Rob Dean and Norman Howard equalled Darren’s score but narrowly lost out on countback. Fourth and fifth places went to Julian Francis and David Kear, who both scored respectable 71s. Well done to Pete and Darren on your wins, and thank you to everyone who took part. We will hopefully see you in the next competitions coming up in September, e.g. the Hinksey Heights Cup, which is going to be a mixed three-person Ryder cup this year (sign up at the 19th hole), and the Lidstone Trophy (mixed three-club challenge).
