Ladies Club Championship Final
Melissa Hughes Retains Title
30 August 2026 Congratulations to reigning Champion Melissa Hughes, who successfully defended her Ladies Club Championship title after a fantastic final against previous Champion Sarah Wynn LVC on the Hawkstone Course. The final was a repeat of last year’s championship decider, with both players battling their way through the scratch knockout competition to earn their place in the final. Over 18 holes, Melissa made a flying start, going 3 up after the opening holes with two pars and a birdie. Sarah responded strongly, winning the Ravine and halving the 5th to put the pressure back on the defending champion. Melissa then produced some outstanding golf, making impressive birdies on the 6th and 8th to extend her advantage to 4 up at the turn. Continuing to apply the pressure, Melissa won the 10th before halving the 11th to move 5 up. Sarah showed tremendous fighting spirit, responding with some excellent ball striking and putting to win the 12th and 13th and reduce the deficit to three holes. With plenty of supporters and spotters watching on from the Lakeside, both players kept their drives to the left. Melissa followed up with a superb approach shot and another birdie, once again putting the pressure firmly back on Sarah. The in-form Melissa proved too strong on the day, winning the Pollard Oak to secure a 5&3 victory and retain the Ladies Club Championship. It was a fantastic final and a wonderful display of ladies’ golf from both players. Both Melissa and Sarah produced some fabulous golf shots throughout the match and showed great skill, determination and sportsmanship. The course itself had also changed considerably following the rain over the previous few days. The fairways were greening up nicely, while the reduced roll on the ball provided an additional challenge for both players. Congratulations to Melissa Hughes, our 2026 Ladies Club Champion. Congratulations to Sarah Wynn LVC, our Ladies Club Championship Runner-Up. A brilliant achievement from both players — well played and congratulations on a superb championship final. Our thanks also go to Lady Captain Liz Dutton for refereeing the match, and to Andy and Sue for their excellent caddying support. Thanks too to all the members and supporters who came out to watch and support both players on the day. A fantastic final and another memorable chapter in the Ladies Club Championship at Hawkstone Park.
