Dear Members, Welcome to the last day of August and the beginning of September, it’s a Bank Holiday today so I’m sure most of you have much better things to do than make your way down to the course. Today is also the official end of summer and tomorrow, September 1st, is the start of autumn. After the multiple heat waves that have swept over the country it felt like autumn had come early last week, the sudden change bringing storms and plenty of rain, much needed rain I might add. This trend is set to continue this week with temperatures in the low 20’s and rain forecast for most days. Catering Corner Emma and Tom are in everyday this week except today so there will be no catering, this is a busy week for the catering team with large events on most days. Competition Corner Monday 31st – No Scheduled event. Tuesday 1st – I have in the diary Ladies Daily Mail Foursomes although there are no further details. Wednesday 2nd – Flempton Pro Am, 13 Teams, Shotgun Start. Course is closed from 1230hrs until 1730hrs. Thursday 3rd – Flempton play host to the Farmers v Surveyors annual match. 1st and 4th Tee restrictions from 1300hrs and 1430hrs. No other general play restrictions. Parks Final 11am Tee off, Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club Friday 4th– Mixed Open, shotgun start, course is closed from 0930hrs until 1400hrs. Saturday 5th – Men’s Match v Saffron Walden. 1st and 4th tee restrictions from 1230hrs to 1330hrs. Junior mixed Stableford (No details) Sunday 6th – Hickory Comp, 9-holes, Tee closed at 1500hrs. Rules Corner Last Week’s Question In stroke play, player A concedes player B’s short putt and knocks the ball away. Player B lifts the ball and plays from the next tee, what is the ruling? a. Player B is disqualified b. Player B gets 2 penalty strokes c. Player A and B both get 2 penalty strokes Last Week’s Answer The correct answer is a, the player is disqualified. In a stroke play event a player must hole out each hole in a round. If the player doesn’t correct the mistake before making a stroke to begin another hole they are disqualified. (see Rule 3.3c) This Week’s Question If the wall of a bunker consists of soil, the wall is part of the bunker. a. True b. False Support As you may or not be aware we are in a Final. Flempton Parks Team have reached the final being played at Felixstowe ferry on Thursday 3rd September, Tee off at 1100hrs. With all our Men’s and Ladie’s county match teams doing so well this year it is fantastic to see one in the final. I know that the Team would appreciate as much support as we can muster, so if you are not planning anything, consider a few hours at the seaside at get down to give them some much welcome support. Good luck Gents, we are all behind you. 9th Green As a reminder, I am noticing more and more members ignoring the small ‘Trolleys this way’ sign on the approach to the 9th Green. You are kindly asked to take your trolleys around to the clubhouse side of the chain link fence, and not over the mounds to the right of the green. This will naturally put you back to the safe side of the 1st Tee box should you be playing through. It is hoped that the path will be extended during the winter months. Those that find that you have played your ball to the left-hand side of the green, then please take your trolley around the back of the green and not across the greens approach.
