GOLFER/NON-GOLFER COMPETITION By 12.30pm on Bank Holiday afternoon the putting-green at Mersey Valley was full as Golfer’s took their Non-Golfer playing partners through their final steps of training for the competition. The rain had finally stopped. Blue sky began to split the cloud. Fairways and greens had mercifully drained following the morning downpours. Pace of play was good and soon there was a regular of trail of Golfers and Non-Golfers trickling into the club house from the 9th. Golfer winner of the day was Chris Dean, picking up a voucher and a copy of For the Golfer Who Has Everything. Second, was Marjorie Cross, taking home a most fitting prize of The Golfers Excuses Handbook. Ivy took the prize for youngest participant, taking home a voucher and copy of Golf Facts for Kids. We hope today will inspire her to continue and come back again. Amelia Moore took first prize for the adult non-golfer with just 16 putts across the whole 9 holes. For the first time ladies participating in the Beginners at Golf programme entered their first ever golfing competition, partnered by golfers from the Ladies Section. First prize was won by Michelle Tatham – a voucher plus a copy of The Hilarious Guide to Golf. Second place required a count-back between Kaylee and Jo, with Kaylee Rank taking the spot with a copy of Golf Jokes for Ladies. It was a splendid afternoon and our thanks go to all those who participated and hope for the non-golfers it inspires them to take up the game. The Beginners at Golf programme is designed to introduce ladies who have never played before to discover whether it is a game for them. A series of sessions over the summer months introduce them to putting and basic shots, culminating in going out onto the course. Accompanying the programme a Ladies Academy Membership is available giving access to the practice facilities and limited time on the course – especially useful for those still working.
