Course Update – VGR Sand Injection and Course Conditions
Good afternoon everyone,
Now that the rain has eased off, I thought I’d provide an update on how last week’s maintenance went.
The VGR sand injection process went according to plan. The contractors, who were booked back in March and have a very busy schedule, arrived slightly later than originally planned but worked into the night to ensure the job was completed within the scheduled timeframe.
During the process, approximately 3,000 litres of water is used to inject the sand into the greens. This, combined with the excessive rainfall from the two recent storms, meant the greens were particularly wet over the weekend. However, they are now starting to dry out, and we expect them to return to their usual playing condition before long.
On Sunday morning, during the course inspection at around 5:30 am, conditions were deemed too wet for trolleys and buggies. The high winds throughout the day then helped to dry the course much faster than anticipated.
Looking ahead, we will review how we manage these situations in the future. Where conditions improve throughout the day, we will look at whether restrictions can be lifted as the course dries out. Equally, following periods of heavy rainfall, we may need to introduce restrictions in the same way to protect the course and ensure everyone’s safety.
I hope you find this update useful, and thank you for your understanding and patience while we carry out this essential maintenance.
Many thanks,
Tom Boyd
Course Manager
