Dear Member,
As we approach the winter months, I wanted to provide a brief update on course maintenance, winter playing arrangements and some important safety information.
**Course Maintenance & Robotic Mowers**
Gareth and his team are continuing to monitor ground conditions before overseeding fairways and bare areas. The unusually firm ground has made timing difficult, but selected areas will be disc-seeded shortly.
Following successful trials of various robotic mowing systems, we are also nearing a decision on introducing robotic mowers to maintain fairways and semi-rough. These should improve consistency while allowing the greenkeeping team to focus on other important course maintenance.
**Winter Rules & Playing Arrangements**
With conditions remaining relatively dry, we intend to delay introducing winter rules for as long as practical.
- Our first review will take place on **Monday 9th November**, with weekly reviews thereafter if conditions remain suitable.
- Red and yellow tees remain in play; white tees have been removed.
- For the first time, we intend to maintain a **measured winter course**, allowing members to submit qualifying scores for handicap purposes from the red tees.
- When winter arrangements begin, only red tees will remain in play.
- Members submitting qualifying scores may only use mats on fairways.
**Buggies & Trolleys**
We have made some minor adjustments to our winter buggy and trolley policy, with the aim of keeping the course accessible wherever conditions permit. Please refer to the separate policy for full details.
Winter wheels and fairway mats are available from the Pro Shop.
**Fog, Darkness & Safety**
With shorter days and an increased likelihood of fog, please remember that safety must always come first.
A visibility marker has been installed on the first fairway. **If you cannot see this marker, you must not start your round.**
The same principle applies throughout the course. If you cannot clearly see the full distance of your intended shot, you must not play. If conditions do not improve, your round must be abandoned.
Finally, our aim throughout winter is to protect the course whilst keeping golf available whenever conditions allow. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support of Gareth and the greenkeeping team.
Please take a few minutes to read the attached Winter Newsletter, which provides further information on all the above.
