Gents Winter League Round1 Results
Ronnie Stuart and Stuart Stirling lead after round 1
A huge thank you to all 59 players who supported the First round of the Gents Stableford League yesterday. That is a decent field for a competition at this time of year, much appreciated. Thanks too for your generosity in also supporting Willow & Wedge at this quieter time for the Restaurant. The weather was kind to the competitors - dry, mild, and with very little wind which reflected in decent scoring overall with several players scoring the par equivalent of 36 points and above. In the A Class league, Ronnie Stuart put himself in pole position scoring 38 points (22/16). Ronnie had a fantastic front nine gross two under par 34 which included two birdies at the par 3's and another at the 8th. He birdied again at the 10th, had a wobble for a few holes but finished strongly with four straight pars to close out the round. Well done, Ronnie, Two playing partners shared second place on 36 points; Alan Nugent and Leigh Conner both scoring identical point scoring (16/20) and were only separated on a final 3-hole countback that went in Alan's favour. Both players came back in level par 35 with Alan securing a birdie at the 12th and Lee at the 11th. Lee's uncharacteristic triple at the 7th hole proving costly on the day. Mark Fowler on 32 points takes 4th place in the league whilst Paul Chisholm, Ian Stewart and Alex Bathgate share 5th place on 31 points. Ronnie wins £5.50 in the main sweep, Alan £3.30 and Lee £2.20. In the B&C round 1 competition Stuart Stirling took top spot producing the best overall score of the day with 40 points. Well done, Stuart. Stuart had a very steady round scoring 20 points in each half with a highlight birdie 3 at the 8th hole. Playing partner Graham Strang finished one point behind on 39 (19/20) which included two birdies at the 8th and 15th. A double bogey finish will have left Graham feeling just a little frustrated in the Clubhouse afterwards. Three players tied for third spot on 38 points, David James (19/19), Mark Bevis (19/19) and Brian Connolly (19/19) with David just winning the sweep money by virtue of a back 6-hole countback with 16 points. His birdie at the last proving crucial. Stuart picks up £24 for his Pro Shop account, Graham £14.40 and David £9.60. Six players scored 2's at the par 3 15th hole, winning £7.85 each Ian Stewart Kyle Fleming Mark Fowler Graham Strang John Daniel Brett Andrew Hutchinson Well done to all winners yesterday and a big thank you for everyone who entered the League competition, really appreciated. Full league table placings will be posted on the front and back area noticeboards in the Clubhouse. Still four rounds to go and everything to play for with top 3 counting for scoring and time for any other interested players to join in the next round which is scheduled for Saturday 5th December. Finally, a big thank you to Ben and the team for presenting the full course in great condition again for the time of year. M&H Team
