Liam was celebrating his 90th birthday in the restaurant, surrounded by a large group of family and friends, so he was surprised when the Captain, Lady Captain and President invited him to the front. The Captain explained that they were there to honour Liam on his 90th birthday for his dedicated services of over approximately 50 years to our Club, by making him our newest Honorary Life Member.
Liam has been a member for most of his life, serving as a member of Council and Assistant Secretary and then he held the role of Honorary Secretary for 18 years. Liam's dedication and negotiating skills guided the Club through very difficult times, especially when our Clubhouse was bombed several times during the seventies. There was a lot of work outside the normal remit of Hon Sec to make sure the Club was treated fairly when sorting compensation claims and also keeping the Clubhouse running after the devastation.
Liam was one of the main brains behind revising our Club's Constitution which is still in place today.
Not one to take a back seat, Liam was a guiding light and with a wealth of knowledge and experience kept everyone on their toes at many an AGM.
Our Club has been very fortunate to have Liam guiding us along the right path to constantly improve our facilities.
Liam, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to our Club, and happy birthday!
