Ladies Section returns to competition golf!
Protocols to follow
I am sure that you will all be pleased by the news that, as from Saturday 18 July, we will be able to resume competition play.

To enable us to do this safely, and within the guidelines provided by England Golf, we are introducing some temporary competition rules. A revised competition schedule for the remainder of the year will be emailed to all the ladies shortly.

Temporary Competition Rules

Prior to play

1. Members wishing to enter a competition must sign-in to that competition via How Did I Do (HDID), either via the app or the HDID website. This can be done either at home, before leaving for the Club, or on a phone when they arrive at the course.

2. Any member who does not have the capability to sign-in via HDID may, exceptionally, sign-in using the PSI screen in the Clubhouse. In order to protect all members, the PSI screen should only be used if you cannot sign-in via any other means. It cannot be guaranteed that the PSI screen will available for use for all competitions.

3. Members using the PSI screen must ensure that they use hand sanitiser prior to touching the screen.

During the round

4. Rakes have been removed from bunkers. Once you have played your shot please smooth the area with your foot or a club. Please consider players following behind you.

5. Flags must be left in when putting.

6. Inserts are currently being used in holes to allow the retrieval of balls without touching the flag and unfortunately, on occasions, this insert allows the ball to jump out of the hole. Players may only treat the ball as ‘holed’ if it actually comes to rest on the insert with a portion of the ball below the surface of the green. Please refer to https://www.congu.co.uk/guidance-on-qualifying-scores-during-the-covid-19-restrictions/

7. Players must mark their own cards and also keep a record of the scores of one other person in their playing group. There is to be no swapping of scorecards. Upon completion of the round scores should be checked verbally with your playing partner.

After the round

8. Following completion of the round, players must enter their scores via How Did I Do, which can be done either via the app or the website. As with signing-in, any member who does not have the capability to use HDID may, exceptionally, enter their scores using the PSI screen in the Clubhouse. Hand sanitiser must be used prior to using the PSI screen.

9. Players must provide me with either a photograph of their card via WhatApp or email by midnight on the day of competition in order to allow validation of competition results. This is to reduce the number of visits to the Clubhouse. Players are required to retain their scorecards until such time as asked to provide them to to me.

Please be aware that a Local Rule will be in place for the foreseeable and will remain in place until such time as rakes are allowed in bunkers again. This rule takes into account the lack of rakes in bunkers and allows for preferred lies in bunkers as an option to the other available golf rules.

The new rule reads as follows:

“When a player’s ball lies in a bunker, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball and playing it from the bunker. The sand must not be smoothed before placing the ball. The ball must be placed within 6 inches of the position of the original ball; must not be nearer the hole than the original ball; and must be placed in the bunker.

The ball may only be placed once. As soon as the ball has been placed it becomes a ball in play.”
