Welcome to this weeks newsletter.
There can be no doubt now that we have seen the last of the Summer and Autumn is amongst us.
This brings new opportunities to work on our golf course and make as many improvements as possible as the weather permits.
You will see that the fairways are already starting to recover nicely and the greens remains as wonderful as ever.
The weather does not look great for this weekend but as we are lucky to have such a free draining golf course, I hope that all of you who still wish to will get out there and enjoy a game!
(I'm sure David will be happy to help you find some new waterproofs!)
Have a great weekend and enjoy the read.
Good Golfing
Tim

Tree Removal on 17.
I am very aware that the removal of any trees on our golf course is a very sensitive issue and I would like to re-assure all members that decisions such as this are NEVER taken lightly.
Following a course walk with our consultant Agronomist, Greg Evans we have had 4 very specific trees identified as problems.
Back left of 17th Green
The willow to the left of the 10th green
2 tall poplars at the back of the 16th Green
What problems I hear you ask?
VERY long story short, we all know that trees have roots, due to the placement of these trees in proximity to the green we now find ourselves in a situation where tree roots are burrowing into the greens surfaces, greenside bunkers and also heaving affecting playing surfaces around the greens. The advice given was to remove these trees as quickly as possible to avoid long term damage.
This information was brought to the Greens committee, the removal voted on and subsequently passed.
Further tree works that are required, advised and agreed upon will take place as we continue to improve playing surfaces across the course.
It is appreciated that not all members will see this as a positive move. but it is for the long term benefit of the golf course and therefore the correct thing to do.

A quick update & reminder on our changes.
Please note the following adjustments to your time spent here at Wyke Green.
Masks MUST be worn in all inside communal areas of the golf club. These may be removed once you are seated at your table. Please be vigilant.
Changing rooms are for the storage of equipment and access to toilets ONLY. No changing of shoes or clothes should take place in the changing rooms.
Players should now not arrive more than 30 minutes prior to their tee time (unless a practice range booking has been made) this is to help avoid outside gatherings in larger groups.
2 of the 4 outside tables are now closed. This is a sensitive area that can be viewed from the main road and we want to do all we can to avoid any unannounced visits from Covid Marshalls.
When you have finished your round, please make sure that we do not gather to discuss your round by the outside tables with those seated. Again, this is to help us avoid gatherings of more than 6 in any one area.
Bar protocol will once again become table service only. Members will be shown to a table and your order will be taken by a member of staff from your table. Both Members green cards and credit or debit cards can be used for payment.
Any guests who visit Wyke Green MUST leave a contact name, email address and phone number with either the bar or the Pro Shop. Systems are in place to make this very quick and easy, including the presence of QR codes around the building.
Please be respectful and understanding of these small adjustments as they are for the benefit of us all.
Thank you for your co-operation.

Update from Course Manager - Tony Dyke
As we enter the wetter months, from next week we will be reintroducing the trolley and buggy lines, these will be placed in front of all greens. Please do not cross these lines with buggies or trollies.
The over seeding of fairways is coming along nicely, some areas will need another application. These areas will be marked GUR in white lines. Again, please avoid taking your trolleys or buggies over these newly seeded areas.
Thank you
Tony.

Rabbits Match Report
The Rabbits lost at Grim's Dyke this week by 3 games to 2.
Greens are the courses' protection and are difficult to read.
However there were some good individual performances in the pairings and the Rabbit's have seen an intake of 5 new members which should prove a strength in the matches to come.
Ealing AWAY next up.
Keiron May
Rabbits Captain & 2020 Silver Loacher Winner!!!!! (Well played Keiron)

As I am sure many of you will be aware in the coming months the new World Handicapping system will be coming into operation.
This, as the name would suggest, is a revised, worldwide system for the calculation of all handicaps.
There is a raft of information available on the subject and this can be viewed at www.whs.com
Over the coming weeks we will be sending out further information to you all.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As a club, we are always keen to hear from you all with any suggestions you may have for improvements here at Wyke Green.
With that in mind, and as some of you may know we have an email address set up - suggestions@wykegreengolfclub.co.uk where you can send any thoughts or ideas for making our wonderful club even better.
These will them be passed to the relevant committees for consideration and to report back to you on any actions.
Have a great week ahead everyone! Enjoy your golf.
Kind Regards
Tim Owers
General Manager.
