ESN Scratch team lose 8-4 to Worthing
Good performance, but disapointing result.
East Sussex National scratch team lost their grip on the title they won so convincingly last year in an away defeat to rivals Worthing GC 8-4.

It was always going to be a tough match once the draw was made, either team would start as favourites with a home tie, so it proved.

Dave Burt (pictured) making his debut performed brilliantly in the morning, partnered with Tom Foreman they won 4 & 3 to level the match after Dean Plant & Matt Hart lost first out.
Mark Robertson & Will Gibb lost match 3 by 3 & 2.

Lee Drew & Steve Graham birdied the 18th to square their match and make the morning score 2 1/2 - 1 1/2 , a good morning performance by the away team.

All to play for in the afternoon, needing 4 1/2 points from the 8 singles to progress.
Dave Burt collected another 1/2 point out in game 1, but defeats for Dean Plant, Tom Foreman & Matt Hart meant Worthing only needed 1 more point.

Lee Drew won match 4 to reduce the deficit, but when matches 6 & 7 went dormie down , Worthing had reached their target.

Will Gibb & Steve Graham gained half points with Mark Robertson losing on the 18th.

The result was much closer than the 8-4 defeat indicates with 4 matches going down the 18th. Worthing are a very strong team and will take some stopping in this seasons competition.

The team will now look to next season and hope for a more favourable draw if they play Worthing again.

A big thanks to all those members who came along to caddy & support the team.
