Tom Foreman produced the only round under par on a sun scorched West Course today to lead by 3 shots going into tomorrow's second round. Tom's 71 -1 gives him a 3 shot lead from Mark Roberston on (+ 2) 74 with exciting young prospect, Toby Morrall a further shot back on (+3) 75.
The course was defiantly the winner today, fast running fairways providing a challenge off the tee with greens looking like oasis against the backdrop of white grass fairways.
The greens were receptive with challenging pin placements and with fast greens, the players had to control their spin to avoid backing the ball off the green.
75 players made the cut for round 2.
Tomorrow's second round brings together two recent winners of the Sussex County Mid-age Champions, Tom in 2024 & Mark in 2025. Both players are proven winners, but who will hold their nerve tomorrow.
Neither Tom or Mark has won the Championship at East Sussex National before so who will produce the golf to lift the trophy tomorrow, both will be looking over their shoulders to keep an eye on former winners Ash Rees & Dean Plant, who both sit just off the pace and very capable of going low tomorrow.
In the Silver Cup for the best nett score, three players are tied on (-3) 69’s , Simon Blakeney, Hugo Brown & Carlo Mendes with Colin Oliver 2 shots back on 71. All three players are looking to win the trophy for the first time, so an exciting finish is guaranteed.
